Frequently Asked Questions - Artwork
What kind of materials do you use in your artwork and related products?
I use only quality materials that have been extensively tested when creating original works of art, artcards and reproductions based on original works. For works in oil, I regularly use Gamblin and Sennelier paints; when working in acrylic, I use Golden paints exclusively. Mixed media work can include everything from rice papers, an array of natural and man-made fibers, inks, clays - an ever-evolving list of materials, both traditional and non-tradional in nature. I enjoy experimentation and labor carefully to ensure the applicability and stability of materials in finalized projects. Painting surfaces include meticulously prepared stretched canvas and birch hardboard surfaces. (However, I have been known to get a "wild hair" every now and then, so occasionally you might see something from me on an unusual substrate!) Art cards are printed on acid-free papers, and reproduction prints can be ordered on both acid-free art papers as well as canvas.
Besides the web, can I arrange to see a private viewing of your work?
I'd be delighted - please contact me for a studio appointment. I usually have work on display at any number of public venues and galleries as well, and would be happy to provide you with places you can visit to see other examples of my work. You might also check out my Events page, for an overview of current gallery exhibitions, festivals and other specials events I'm participating in. Information about my studio schedule and can also be found there, along with opportunities to sign up to attend complimentary artist soiree's throughout the year.
Are the sizes listed in your catalog pages accurate?
Yes. Dimensions decribe items in their completed state. For paintings and reproduction prints, sizes stated do not include framing or matting unless explicitly noted. Art card sizing meets A2, A6 and #10 envelope standards; no extra postage is required for special handling when mailing these out.
Do you sell prints of your work?
Yes. But only in discrete sizes at this time - and only on paper. I hope to add large print, mat and frame, and options for print on canvas soon.
Do you create commissioned work?
Yes. Contact me about a specific request - I'd be happy to oblige! The first step would be to set up an appointment to talk through your requirements: size, color scheme, subject or theme, mood, single or mutiple canvases, etcetera. Preferences and expectations would also be captured during that meeting, along with milestones for the project, key dates, in addition to payment and delivery arrangements. Depending on your request, (and of course, timing), work might typically begin shortly thereafter. At no time will be you left "in the dark" about the process and wondering about the status of things; I'll remain in constant contact with you from start to finish, keeping you in the loop as each milestone is reached! The best part yet is that commisioned artwork is pricing comparably to other created work, so you have an opportunity to get just what you want!
Can I order a painting that is marked "Original sold"?
Yes. When an original painting is sold, it can still be reproduced because the copyright is retained by me as the artist/creator of the work. Reproductions are similar to the original with slight differences: materials may not represent the exact materials used in the original work. With a 'Limited Edition', only a certain number of reproduction prints are made available for sale. These are numbered, and finite in supply; once all have been sold, the painting is officially removed from the market, making the image no longer available for sale. Not all original paintings sold through my website will be available for purchase as a reproduction; this decision is made on a case-by-case basis. Limited Edition prints are catalogued, signed, and numbered by the artist. All Limited Edition prints come with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). To see what might be available as a print, see the My Catalog page, and select 'Reproduction Prints'.
What is a Certificate of Authenticity?
A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) accompanies every original and reproduction work of art and is your guarantee of authenticity, value, and legal ownership. This documentation includes details about the artwork being purchased, it's title, creation date, sizing, materials overview, and catalogued number - an important aspect of artwork provenance. COA's are also signed by the artist and bear the personal mark of Particulars Studio.
Can I be notified when new work or products are added to your website?
Yes. There are a couple of ways to do this. You can sign up for my mailing list to receive news and information about new artwork, as well as upcoming events. Or you can just email or call periodically to see what's new. (You always have the opportunity to opt out if you decide it's not for you). Signing up is easy and requires minimal information from you - I've even made it easy with a straighforward contact form.
What can I expect with placement of my order?
First and foremost - you can expect excellent, professional service and high quality products - I stand behind everything sold. Purchased items will always be promptly packed and shipped in accordance with delivery times stated, and where a delay might result, you will always hear from me first. You'll receive confirmation emails throughout the buying process, and tracking information will be made available to you via the web. I take great care to package artwork well, using state of the art packing materials and methods, so your artwork arrives ready to hang. However, should you encounter any problem with your order, I stand ready to remedy the condition promptly - to your satisfaction. All artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and an Affidavit of Value (AOV) for insurance purposes. I usually include a Tip sheet describing how to care for your new artwork as well.
